Six Degrees Social Media - SocialMaurice

SocialMaurice - American social psychologist Stanley Milgram, is known for his hypothesis that "everything and everyone is on six steps or less away, by way of introduction, by another person in the world, so a friend de'un chain of a ami'déclarations to connect to two people in a maximum of six phases can be made." Today, this is called the six degrees of separation and the phenomenon of the "little World".

In the 1960s Milgram had not the luxury of email via the information highway so hetested his theory the best he could by the sending packages and letters. Milgram asked 160 shipments of random participants to start a chain that he hoped would end up with a specific recipient in Boston. The only condition? Milgram requires that each person send his plot to a well-known friend based on the first name.

Since this experience, is the idea of six degrees of separation tested in a multitude of ways, including on social networks like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

So, with the internet on your side, how long do you think it would take to the tracks of a random individual?
Alex Rutherford, of the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, has an answer to this intriguing question. The use of social media, Rutherford again the Milgram wanted to experience in a game called the tag challenge. The challengeis to identify individuals in five different cities in North America and Europe on the basis of a single photo and in which city they live. Rutherford and his team adopted three of the five people in twelve hours. If the Milgram Rutherford attributes its success to experience the questions from people who he knew could help.

Rutherford and his team said: "We have shown that this phenomenon of the 12-hour separation is based on the ability of social networks to mobilize in a targeted way, using geographic information to recruiting of participants." Most of us saw this phenomenon in action last week with the bombing in Boston. A two-day period, were people requested evidence for the FBI. This question led to a fury of team work and cooperation between the Americans, who in a quick resolution resulted.

Social media we could even more personal than Stanley Milgram ever thought. Not only do we have 12 hours of separation, but we have a much broader sense of community. We can unite as people and Community to solve crimes and shooting through the greatest tragedies.
